Another day, three more games. Day Five of the 2015 Canadian Little League Championships is now complete and while the weather was chilly, the bats were hot.
The opening game saw the Lethbridge SWLL Red Giants fall to the White Rock All-stars 5-1. White Rock’s #15 Matthew Wilkinson was credited as the winning pitcher. #6 Darius Opdam Bak had 3 RBIs to go with his home run. #14 Trent Lenihan had the only other home run and 2 RBIs.
In the 3 pm game, the NDG Lynx got their first win of the tournament versus the Moose Jaw AAA All-Stars with a score of 11-3. #48 Justin Ricci was the winning pitcher after pitching for 3 innings. #21 Rylan Watson from Moose Jaw had the only home run of the game.
The final game of the day pulled in a large crowd even with the dark clouds and cold win. The High Park Braves took sole possession of first place with a 14-4 win over the East Nepean Eagles. The Braves are now the only unbeaten team, sitting at 5-0. It was the Eagles first loss of the championship. #25 David Gucciardi was the winning pitcher, with 3 strikeouts.
The times will change up tomorrow, in preparation for the Champions Dinner held at Algonquin College. It will be the last day of the round robin, barring any rained out games. The first game will be held at 9 am, seeing the rested Glace Bay McDonalds Colonels take on Moose Jaw. At 12 pm, High Park will take on White Rock and the final game will be at 3 pm and see the Eagles take on NDG.
With the Champions dinner tomorrow, Robbie Alomar, the ex-Toronto Blue Jay and MLB Hall-of-Famer will be the guest speaker. He will be at the field to throw out a first pitch for the 12 pm game. The dinner is unfortunately not open to the public.
