After a lopsided Day One, the scores started to get closer in Day Two of the 2015 Canadian Little League Championship. Today saw the Glace Bay McDonald’s Colonels take on the High Park Braves, Lethbridge SWLL Red Giants face the Moose Jaw AAA All-Stars and the East Nepean Eagles challenge the White Rock All-Stars.

The Braves came out on top in their game against the Colonel’s, 6-5. The game had everyone on the edge of their seats. The Braves were up 5-2 at the end of the fourth inning, but after a home run from #26 Liam Burke and scores from #17 Zack Wilcox and #18 Jarrett Hicks, the score was tied heading into the final inning. #24 David Calabrese played hero, with a winning home run in the bottom of the 6th, stopping the Colonels comeback.

The second game was the third mercy ruled game called short, with the Red Giants beating Moose Jaw 18-1. #12 Josh Kabayama had 5 RBIs in the win. #1 Evan McCubbing had the one run for Moose Jaw.

The final game of the day was the Eagles defeating White Rock 6-5. In the second nail biter of the day, it was a big third inning for both teams, leaving the score 5-5. In the top of the fifth, a hit from #5 Adam Saleh led to #16 Andre Bess scoring.

After the two days, the Braves and the Eagles are on the top of the standings, both 2-0. They play each other August 12 in the Battle of Ontario. Eagles #14 Jayden Oliver and Braves #25 David Gucciardi lead in batting average, hitting .800. Gucciardi is also leading in home runs with 3.

Tomorrow will be another exciting day in the tournament; it’s an early start with a pancake breakfast in the morning for players, coaches, umpires and LLC executives thanks to Enbridge and Loblaws, with help from the Barrhaven BIA. At 9 am, the skills competition is on, presented by Easton and Play it Again Sports.

The games will take place at noon, with the Red Giants playing the rested NDG Lynx 3 pm, with White Rock and the Colonels squaring off, and 6 pm when the Eagles will look to take sole possession of first place against Moose Jaw. The Braves will take their rest day.
